Like the name suggests deep tissue massage is tailored to reach a greater depth of muscle than other forms. By accessing posterior (deep) muscles higher levels of tension relief are achieved. Obviously in order for these results increased pressure needs to be targeted to these areas. This type of massage is perfect for those that suffer from knots or low levels of muscle elasticity. Once knots have been kneaded out increased blood flow is manipulated to the area to speed the body’s naturally occurring healing process. It’s also perfect for clients who experience regular muscle stiffness or acute chronic pain.
Existing clients site greater muscle flexibility and reduced stress as major benefits of deep tissue treatments. As this type of massage is generally performed on clients with greater musculoskeletal issues Neil recommends multiple treatments to ensure the best results. Unlike other treatments you may be asked to breathe deeply to increase blood oxygenation to increase results in a particular area. Neil will need to apply more body weight to achieve this level of pressure and often shift the positions of the clients arms and legs.
